Freshwater pearls: these are formed in  formed in rivers, lakes, and ponds. They have a thicker nacre and therefore may have more depth of shimmer. 
Mabe pearls: A mabe pearl is a half-pearl. They are formed by inserting a dome shaped nucleus into the mollusk with the flat side against the shell.
