Introducing Tussar Silk
A limited-edition capsule from Caroline Sills
JOURNAL / NOVEMBER 3, 2026
Some fabrics need little introduction, and silk is certainly one of them. Long admired for its luxurious nature, it remains a timeless choice in the modern wardrobe. Tussar Silk, however, offers something even better - with its unique texture, subtle sheen and beautiful drape, it brings a more premium quality to silk.
The focal point of our Caroline Sills High Summer collection, Tussar Silk is a fabric worth getting to know.
What Is Tussar Silk
Silk has a history spanning thousands of years, first developed in China around 3600 BC before becoming one of the world's most sought-after textiles. Tussar Silk, also known as Tussah or wild silk, has its own distinct character.
Produced by silkworms that feed on forest trees rather than mulberry leaves, Tussar Silk is renowned for its naturally golden tones, subtle lustre, and textured finish. Unlike the plane and glossy appearance often associated with traditional silk.

The Benefits of Tussar Silk
Naturally breathable
With summer dressing in mind, Tussar silk offers a beautiful balance of comfort and style. Because of its porous structure, Tussar silk allows continuous airflow. It feels cooler than traditional silk, making it the ideal warm weather fabric.
Unique appearance
A softly slubbed surface and muted sheen give Tussar Silk a distinctive finish that catches the light without feeling shiny. It brings interest to simple silhouettes, allowing the fabric itself to do the talking.
Considered fibre
Sourced largely from wild forest silkworms feeding on natural foliage without pesticides, it supports rural tribal and handloom artisan communities.
